Bangkok to Koh Phangan: Ferry & Full Moon Party Guide

Koh Phangan has no airport, so every route from Bangkok ends the same way — a ferry from either Koh Samui or Surat Thani's Donsak Pier.

5h – 14h
From $15

How it works

  1. 1

Pick a gateway: fly Bangkok Airways to Koh Samui (~1h15, the airline that dominates this route), fly any carrier to Surat Thani (~1h), or take an overnight bus/train to Surat Thani (~9–12h).

  2. 2

From Koh Samui: Lomprayah or Seatran Discovery catamaran from Bangrak Pier. From Surat Thani: Raja Ferry or Seatran Ferry from Donsak Pier.

  3. 3

Songthaew from Thong Sala pier to Haad Rin (~20–30 min) — unless you're on the party-day Haad Rin Queen from Samui, which skips this step.

Tips for this route

  • Book the mainland-to-island ferry leg 2–3 weeks ahead of party dates — combo tickets sell out fast around Full Moon Party.
  • Avoid traveling on the party day itself: ferries are overcrowded and prone to delays. Arrive 1–2 days early instead.
